Newborn  Case Study # 1

Objective:

Patient Presentation

Baby Tinker is a 3 day old female.  She is in need of a home visit as requested by her pediatrician.  She had a mildly elevated bilirubin level prior to discharge. She was determined to be high-intermediate risk for hyperbilirubinemia using an hour-specific bilirubin nomogram. She is having difficulty with breastfeeding.

History

Baby Tinker had an eventful delivery and her mother had an unremarkable pregnancy w/ good prenatal care. Baby Tinker was born at 37/1 gestation. Mom denied using alcohol or illicit drugs during her pregnancy. It is documented that although mom is currently trying to breastfeed she is hesitant about her decision.  Baby Tinker is living with both her mother and father and appears to be a stable and engaging environment.  Baby Tinker is the first baby for mom & dad.
