1. Abuse and Neglect
This course is based on the document
Raising Awareness which was
prepared by the Adult Protective Services Division of the Department
of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living and is a guide to
recognizing and reporting cases of abuse, neglect and exploitation of
vulnerable adults.
2. Alzheimer's Disease
This course is designed to provide useful
information to professionals
who are working with patients with dementia. The objectives for this
course include defining dementia, discovering how the symptoms of
dementia affect the person with this disease, and providing information
for the home care professional on how to help assist the patient with
dementia.
3. Body Mechanics
The body mechanics module provides information for back health
and
safe practices. You may be asked to perform a lifting demonstration in
conjunction with this presentation. Ask your supervisor. After reviewing
the
presentation, complete the evaluation quiz. This module should take
15 minutes to complete.
4. Common Health Problems
This course is designed to help
Licensed Nursing Assistants and
Personal Care Attendants better understand the health concerns of
their patients. The first module is on the circulatory system and includes
information about heart related problems.
5. Diabetes Management
This course explains the basics of
management of diabetes. The first
module
is an introduction to diabetes and includes definitions, decisions
and
recommended care. The objectives for this module are to understand
that
diabetes is a chronic disease, to list the factors involved in self care
and to
identify the recommended standards of care. The second module is
treatment
of
low and high blood sugar and sick day management. The
objectives are to describe the symptoms of low and high blood sugars
and
to understand the actions that need to be taken for both.
6. IV Therapy - Reading for VAHHA IV Course
VAHHA offers, on a regular basis,
an IV Therapy course. This is an in-
person
course not a web-based course. Below is a link to an article which
is required reading for this course. Upon completion of this program the
participants will be able to
identify objectives and principles of IV therapy
in the home and the nurses' role in achieving these objectives. For the next

7. Licensed Nursing Assistant Test Preparation
These modules will help the student
who is taking the state Licensed Nursing Assistant
state exam pass this test. The modules include skills test
preparation, test taking
tips, and preparation for the written exam.
8. Maternal Child Health Care
Standards and competencies for
maternal and child health home visiting contribute to
positive health outcomes for pregnant women, their children and their
families.
These modules include instruction for prenatal, postpartum and newborn care
for
the home care nurse. The program includes instruction plus recommended
readings.
9. Medicare Rules
This is a two-part series on
Medicare rules for home care agencies. This course
is presented for Agency Administrators, Registered Nurses, Speech
Therapists,
Occupational Therapists. Medical Social Workers and Physical Therapists.
Part one describes what Medicare covers and explains the eligibility
requirements
that must be met in order to qualify for Medicare-paid services. The second
module describes the requirements for staff as well as explains what
services
are covered.
10. Pressure Ulcer Training
This four-part training series is
presented by the American Nurses Association.
The ANA is accredited as a provider of continuing nurses education by the
American
Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. 1.5 contact hours
will
be awarded to learners who successfully complete this course. The modules
are:
Pressure Ulcers and Staging; Other Would Types and Skin Injuries; Prevalence
Study
Protocol; and Community vs. Hospital/Unit Pressure Ulcer. To access

11. Safety Series
Series I - Safety and Security
Series I contains 3 modules for learning on Safety and Security issues
related to
homecare. The modules are: confidentiality, risk management and
personal safety.
All modules must be reviewed to conclude the series then
complete the evaluation
quiz at the end of the modules. This series will
take approximately 1 hour to
complete.
Series II - Infection Control
Series II contains 3 learning modules related to Infection control practices
and
bloodborne pathogens. This series also contains an evaluation quiz for
each module
that must be completed for credit by your agency. This series
will take approximately
1 hour to complete.
12. Traumatic Brain Injury Instruction Series
These six modules are geared toward
helping the professional who is working with
a person who has suffered a traumatic brain injury. The modules
include two sessions
on the brain - Basics and The Neurotypical Brain; two on professional
behavior -
Professionalism, Legal & Ethical Practices and Protocols: and one on Developing
Awareness
and Empathy; and Behavior Management - Developing Effective Practices
and
Protocols and Stages of Recovery.
13. Workers' Compensation
The course is geared for human
resource directors and program managers. The
course explains how the rates for workers' compensation are determined and
includes
an explanation of the experience modification. This course should take
approximately
1 hour to complete.
