Home Care Patients Served
The total number of Vermonters served by the twelve home care agencies in Fiscal Year 2004 was 2% higher than the number served in FY 2003. In 2004, the twelve VAHHA member agencies made home visits to 21,813 people compared to 21,375 in 2003. The total number of home visits made increased by 2.2% to 888,178 in 2004 from 869,441 in 2003. The total number of Home Health Aide visits made in 2004 was 254,650 compared to the 288,478 visits made in 2003. Nursing visits were 263,051 in 2004 compared to 264,415 visits made in 2003. The total number of Physical Therapy visits made was 69,233 compared to 64,118 in 2003; Medical Social Work visits were 14,071 compared to 12,770; Speech Therapy visits were 8,654 compared to 7,632; and Occupational Therapy visits were 12,189 compared to 12,021 visits made in 2003. The Homemaker program was nearly even with the year before as 41,638 visits were made in 2004 compared to 40,498 in 2003. The Medicaid Waiver program experienced a significant increase in 2004 to 169,896 visits made from 158,767 in 2003 a 10,284, 7% increase. Revenues increased from $85,371,138 to $91,165,968. Medicaid and Medicare comprised 81.8% of the total revenues. Home care agencies in Vermont served more Medicare patients per thousand than the US average and the New England average, and more than either Maine or New Hampshire agencies, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In calendar year 2004, Vermont agencies served 108 Medicare eligible per thousand compared to the national average of 78 and the New England average of 105.
